Tips for the funky bit 🍸

The drinks reception is one of those pockets of the day which instil a fear into couples. It’s the sweet spot of a wedding - the ceremony nerves have evaporated, and the party hasn’t yet descended into the beautiful chaos on the dance floor. However nothing kills the vibe like a massive queue for drinks, nothing to nibble on and the dreaded bored guests.

To keep the energy high and the lines short, here are some tips to master the flow:

Don’t make guests head straight for the bar. The moment they walk into a reception space, they should be met with pre-poured reception drinks. This gratifies the initial “I need a drink” urge and prevents a bottleneck at the bar.

Streamline the menu at the bar, this will help with any long queues at the bar, and help the bar staff with the rush. Signature cocktails could be made in batches or you could introduce a self service station.

Smart staffing- have tray service of standard drinks like champers or Pimm’s alleviating more queues at the bar.

More than 100 guests? Have two bars or two service points at either end.

Keep canapés away from the bar, making guests circulate around the space.

Each year, we see new trends and styles popping up, defining the aesthetic of the wedding season. And with the 2026 season fast approaching, we thought it was time to take a look at what we think the trends of the year might be. We like to be inspired by trends, not led by them, and understand that they're not everyone's cup of tea. So let us know which ones you're loving, and which ones you'll be happy to leave behind.

Unusual tabelscapes - the serpentine table took the industry by storm last year, and we don't believe this is a trend that's going anywhere any time soon. Let's get creative with it - maybe the time of the round table is over...

Alternative wedding cake - it is becoming so common for us to hear "we don't really like cake, so we're not having one at our wedding" in our planning meetings, and we get it!! What's the point of having something you don't like, because tradition dictates you should? This is where alternative options are coming in, and we're obsessed. A tiramisu bar? Yes please...

Vintage inspiration - I think we may have Bridgerton to thank for this one a bit - vintage stylings are coming back into fashion hard. And I don't just mean the lace of the regency era; the history of fashion gives us SO MUCH to play with in our wedding styling. So why shouldn't we lean into it??

Draping - if you'd asked me three years ago if I like draping at a wedding, I would've been a hard pass. But with the tradish being thrown out the window, and fun, colourful, interesting draping being brought in, I think I might be a fan...

Art Deco Aesthetic - linking back to our vintage inspiration, I think art deco stylings are going to start playing a bigger part in our table scales. Intricately patterned tablecloths, extravagance, luxury - what's not to love about that style palette? Can't wait to see how this might unfold.

3 tips for wedding design

It’s easy to get distracted by shiny things, but a beautiful wedding isn’t just a collection of nice bits. It’s a bit like a good pub—it’s about the atmosphere, the flow, and that feeling that you never want to leave.

If you’re staring at a blank canvas of a venue and feeling a bit stumped, here’s 3 quick tips for putting it all together:

1. Design for the Lulls: Everyone plans for the ceremony, but what about the bit between the dinner and the dancing? Design pockets for people to retreat to. A cluster of chairs for the quiet ones, a ledge for drinks near the dance floor. Think about how people move.

2. Where’s the focus?: You don’t need a wow moment in every corner. It’s exhausting for the eyes. Find the main focal point in each space and let everything else be the supporting cast. Work with the Building, not against it. Lean into the bones of the space. Use the height, the stone, the beams, or that weird corner—those are the bits that give it character, and probably why you chose it.

3. The Texture Trick: If a room feels a bit flat, it’s usually because everything is the same texture. Mix it up. Hard wood with soft velvet. Shiny glass with matte ceramic. It’s the faff that makes it feel finished.

The one when we did three set ups in 24 hours in the same marquee.

H & B’s wedding at @boreplace was a stunning (wet) weekend. The glorious Hatty planned the decor to a T and it was our job (alongside coordinating) to execute this to bring her vision to fruition.

Yes, it was HARD to change the whole layout (including changing chair types, tables from banquet to round and the configuration itself) as well as completely different tableware for each dining experience, from the rehearsal dinner on Friday to breakfast on Saturday morning and then the actual Wedding Breakfast in the afternoon…but we did it.

If you’re keen to plan your Wedding yourself, but feel you might need some expert advice along the way, having time with an expert might be just what you need. And the best bit? It doesn’t mean you’re cheating or failing.

Even if you are the most capable and massively organised person and really excited to plan your wedding, you still might find parts of it overwhelming and that the time you thought you had to dedicate to it just doesn’t exist.

Maybe you love to organise things but realise that you need help to keep you on track, or just want to have the expertise with planner to guide you on your journey whilst still having the headspace to do it yourself.

If this sounds a bit like you, maybe having a Dip In or two is just what you need.

In each session you get to go through your plans with us and make sure they work. We can troubleshoot and tell you where the holes might be. You then get two hours of our admin time where we can help you to get details over the line either with yourselves or your suppliers. ❤️The Aesthetic: The velvet linens, the pop of burgundy in your florals, the cool sofa that everyone will queue up to take a selfie on.
🤌🏻The Vibe: The way the music builds after the first dance, the warmth of the lighting as the sun goes down, and the fact that your guests never have an empty glass.

We know you’ve all been to that wedding: stunning flowers, incredible dress, but... everyone is sitting down by 9 PM because the room is too bright and the bar is in another building.

At Luna HQ we don’t just style weddings; we engineer atmospheres. We want your guests to feel looked after, loosened up, and ready to party harder than they have in years.

Things to consider:
Lights: Dim them. Then dim them again. Harsh overhead lights are the enemy of romance (and dancing). Think pockets of warm light and plenty of candlelight.

Booze: The bar should be as close to the dance floor as humanly possible. If guests have to leave the room for a refill, the party energy dwindles.

The Flow: A great wedding is like a great play. It needs a beginning, a middle, and a banging climax ;) We manage the transitions and the flow. Great suppliers and entertainment will definitely help this happen and take guests on a journey, punctuated by some amazing highs.

Happy guests = High energy. If they’re shivering in a cold barn or sweating under a marquee, they aren’t partying. We handle the boring logistics (heaters, fans, water stations) so the vibe stays immaculate.

The “vibe” is important, but the logistics are what let you actually enjoy that vibe.

When we do a venue walkthrough with our couples, we aren’t just looking at where the cake goes. We’re looking for the potential “pinch points.” We’re checking if the bar is too far from the dance floor (the ultimate party killer!) and making sure the “Plan B” is just as stunning as the original dream.

When a brief that good came in, we were all over it. These two wanted funky, retro and fun, and so we teamed up with @thebloominatiflorist to create a ceiling instal featuring balls, lampshades and flower clouds, a romantic disco ceremony space and tables full of fun and colour.

Worrying about rain being a pain on your wedding day?

Well, just tell me if you see any glum faces in this array of pics from gorgeous Hatty and Ben’s wedding last summer.

With any wedding where you are planning on using the outdoor space, the old saying, “Plan for the worst and hope for the best” really came into play.

We planned to hold the ceremony next to the mirror pond but needed to make the call to move this into the barn 24hours before. However we did manage to have a stunning confetti moment in that location as the spots of rain begun. Then came the downpour… moving over 100 guests from the main house to the marquee just meant all hands on deck with golf umbrellas and willing people to lend a hand to shuttle run handfuls of people across the lawn.

Honestly, this created laughs and certainly brought people together, and made for a really wholesome moment.

Don’t be frightened about a bit of rain. It’s good luck. Just make sure you have planned for Plan B and C and hope for Plan A.

The answer is almost always: if you love them, book them.

In the world of weddings, the best in the biz often have diaries that fill up faster than a free bar at midnight. If you have found a photographer whose style makes your heart skip, or a florist who just gets your anti beige vision - book them.

Wedding styling doesn’t have to be overly feminine. We created a stripped back vibe with a contrast of black and white ‘old Hollywood’ as the backdrop and added touches of the softest apricot to soften and add dimension. Straight, clean lines were broken by delicate muslin and natural textures. Add some soft candlelight and you have a dreamy look perfect for those cold winter wedding nights.

We are preparing for our final wedding of the year which is happening this weekend and will be taking a bit of a break from the socials because there are more important things to do, quite frankly.

Like all of us in the industry, winter is a time to take stock, reflect and prepare for the year ahead. We welcome the slower pace and are grateful to be able to spend more time with friends and family.

For planners, it’s also a time for us to do a lot of the admin for our clients - venue research, tapping up suppliers and all the other business-y things we never get chance to do in the high season.

So, we continue to work, albeit slightly slower.

Pantone have named their colour of the year 2026 as Cloud Dancer - a soft, warm, inviting warm white - and it feels like it was chosen for the brides, doesn't it?! It's the colour that marks the occasion, that highlights brides as the lady of the hour and is up there as one of the most iconic parts of a wedding. But what I love about Pantone choosing Cloud Dancer is how it's described - a whisper of tranquility - and how we can use that for our couple's on their wedding day.

You're surrounded by your loved ones, marrying the person of your dreams - there's no doubt a wedding is going to feel busy and at times overwhelming. We love to encourage our couples to take a moment alone to cherish each other on their day, and I feel the colour of the year embodies that. Making sure we find moments of tranquility, amidst the joy and celebration. Hopefully this can serve as a reminder for our 2026 couples as they carry on their wedding planning.

Decor - what do we think? Is it time to re-embrace the neutral palate of Cloud Dancer, and give our weddings the elegance of a light aesthetic? Or do we feel like we're not done with the brights of 2025 just yet? Maybe a combination of the two? The possibilities are endless...

Wedding Spotlight: S&M, September 2025

Oh, sweet, gorgeous Sophia and Tig 🐉 these two were a true joy to work with - combining their cultures and passions to create a day that truly reflected the couple that they are. We were welcomed into the day with warm, open arms, and it was a privilege to be on hand as the pair said 'I do'. Plus, with a Chinese Dragon, musical performances from multiple family members, and a song written by the bride herself, we weren't short of entertainment throughout the day. Safe to say we shared a few tears before we left🫶🏻
