Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life, and every detail deserves thoughtful attention—especially the ceremony. So why is it that the ceremony is often treated as an afterthought?
The simple answer: many couples don’t realise they have a choice.
Traditionally, wedding ceremonies have been held in churches or conducted by registrars. And while these are wonderful options for some, there’s a third alternative that offers complete flexibility—Independent Celebrants.
What Is an Independent Celebrant?
An Independent Celebrant is a professional who works directly with you to create a bespoke, meaningful ceremony that reflects your values, personalities, and love story. Because the legal marriage is conducted separately (typically at a registry office), Independent Celebrants aren’t bound by the same legal restrictions as religious or civil ceremonies. This gives you the freedom to hold your wedding wherever, whenever, and however you choose.
Want to exchange vows in a woodland clearing, a family garden, or the place where you first met? Prefer a sunrise ceremony or a moonlit celebration? The choice is yours. With an Independent Celebrant, your ceremony becomes the heart of your day—not just the prelude to the party.
Finding the Right Celebrant
To get started, it’s important to find a celebrant who feels like the perfect fit. Do your research—browse websites, read testimonials, and look through real wedding galleries. What kind of ceremonies do they create? Are they qualified and experienced?
If you’re working with a Wedding Planner, ask if they have a list of recommended celebrants. Wedding Planners and Celebrants often work closely together, so your planner can guide you toward someone who matches your vision.
Once you’ve chosen your celebrant, they’ll take the time to get to know you, your love story, and what matters most to you. They’ll collaborate with you to shape a ceremony that’s deeply personal and unique.
Personalising Your Wedding Ceremony
With an Independent Celebrant, the creative possibilities are endless. You might include unity rituals like a handfasting, lighting a unity candle, or even mixing a signature cocktail. You could also incorporate cultural or religious traditions that reflect your heritage or values.
Whether you come to your celebrant with a clear vision or need help exploring ideas, they’ll support and inspire you every step of the way.
Celebrants and Wedding Planners: The Dream Team
While your celebrant crafts and delivers your ceremony, your Wedding Planner is the mastermind behind the wider logistics of the day—liaising with suppliers, managing the timeline, and ensuring every element flows seamlessly. Together, we form a trusted team, working in harmony to bring your wedding vision to life.
What is a Wedding Planner?
Forget the movies of the 80’s and 90’s where the stereotypical wedding planner is highly strung, bossy and overbearing and quite often one of the main protagonists (insert J-LO’s Mary Fiore). Although often a figure of humour (who remembers Martin Short’s fabulous character in the Father of The Bride?) the reality of having a planner is thankfully very different these days.
A wedding planner is many things, and wears many hats, but is one who should never come across as anything other than a cheerleader for you and your day. Our role is first and foremost to support and guide you through the process of planning the most important day of your lives. But, we also do so much more than that.

Finding the right Wedding Planner for you
The first step is to find out as much as they can about you, your ideas and your hopes and dreams for your wedding celebration. Through this they will build a solid relationship which is built on trust, expertise and value-alignment. Getting the right fit with your planner and each of your suppliers is crucial. A good planner will spend time building a trustworthy relationship, and making sure you know that they have your best interests at the heart of what they do.
If you come to us, the process continues as we then suggest suppliers who equally ‘fit’ your wedding experience, help you to book services and navigate through the highs and support you through any lows of planning. On your wedding day, we are present to ensure your day runs smoothly, troubleshoot any issues and deal with suppliers behind the scenes. We can be as front-facing as you like, or be seamlessly behind the scenes. The main thing is doing what you need when you need it. We are great with a schedule, but more than that, we are great with you and the people who you want around you to celebrate on the day.
Your and your guests' experience will be the glue that binds us through our journey together, and will be the element which forms the direction of the planning choices and the thing which elevates your day. We create the components, the options and provide the reinforcements, but all with emotional guidance, cheerleading, and tons of support when things may seem hard. All of this will create the best vibe, both as a team and for your experience on your wedding day.
From welcome drinks to your vows, and from the confetti toss to the last dance, your Wedding Planner and Celebrant are there to make sure your day is authentic, joyful, and unforgettable.

Why do Celebrants and Planners work brilliantly together?
At the heart of it we are pretty similar people, doing a similar job, and hold similar values. We want to create an experience, the emotion of your celebration from the start of your day and party to the very end. We set the tone and atmosphere and make sure that continues right to the point where your feet are sore and your guests are wandering home.
Both a Celebrant and a Planner work personally with you, adding bespoke touches and the finer details. They are both interested in making sure that your day reflects you both individually and as a partnership. They will communicate with each other to make sure that what is reflected in your ceremony forms the basis for the day: that your values and personalities resonate through your choices, and through each element of your day.

In summary, choosing an Independent Celebrant and working alongside a skilled Wedding Planner allows you to celebrate your love exactly the way you want. It’s your story—let’s tell it beautifully.
