Kitsch and Colourful Nautical Styled Shoot Wedding Inspo at The Boat Shed, Hampshire.

Updated: Jan 21, 2021

If you are looking for a fun pop of colour and a quirky and kitsch vibe, then look no further. Here we have it in spades.

The Boat Shed is a new venue in Portchester, Hampshire and great space if you are looking for a quirky vibe. When creating the concept and styling ideas for this shoot, I wanted to embrace the nautical space by heightening it with kitsch touches. For me, it was about having fun with the space and not about going down the traditional blue and white stripes. Instead, bring on the sailor boys, brightly coloured fish, pom moms, streamers and doilies.

All the colour - Styling and Florals

As you can see from the pics, colour was at the heart of this shoot and we asked the fantabulous @purpledoorprops to supply the tables and their awesomely mis-matched coloured chairs. Nothing about this styling was matchy-matchy! The pop of colour looked brilliant in the industrial setting - think corrugated iron walls, huge iron doors, buoys hanging from the ceiling and a grey concrete floor - all naturally asking for something a bit fancy to juxtapose it.

To continue the colour frenzy, I asked Rhiannon from @willowandwisps to create florals which had a kitch and vintage feel. Between us we have also collected a variety of quite wonderful vessels to display the florals in - ranging from woodland themed vases to a giant swan. Rhiannon also brought out the vintage fav - geraniums in terracotta pots - just like stepping back to the 80's and helping us to achieve a sustainability through planting. Coloured candles, painted tins and coloured linens on kitchen doilies all helped to tie this concept together.

Lauren from @paperbearlane created a cool retro suite which we loved. From the invitation to stickers to a hand embroidered poem, there were so many amazing fun details which made this a totally unique suite.

The Bridal and Groom styling

Bridal gowns from @creatiques (a simple spaghetti string gown and scalloped design separates) were accessorised with @ashleywildbridal pieces ranging from beautifully detailed headbands, contemporary bow-veils, delicate earrings and the most awesome clutch bag which I lovingly call 'The Orb'.

@dapperandsuave styled Ben, the Groom and took him on a bit of a journey from a blue detailed check suit by @astares to a Captain's jacket to full-on Sailor-Boy. I loved their playful take on the concept and the way they once again brought their fun and colourful styling ideas. They are also dab hands at creating amazing men's accessories and had made some amazing flower lapel pieces, pocket squares and signature bowties.

The Cake

One of my very favourite cakes EVER was created for this shoot by the awesomely talented @harttcakes. When given the brief for the shoot, I know a inner panic fell on Becky, however, I think you will all appreciate just how majestic this is!

If you have a fun and colourful wedding being planned and need some styling ideas to make it fun and unique, just holler. I'm always keen for something a bit quirky!
